    As at 31 December 2019, total outstanding credit card loans by FDIC-insured banks in the US stood at USD$941.56 billion compares to USD$903.49 billion a year ago, representing a 4.21% increased in 12 months period. Credit card loans representing about 51% of the total loans to individual. Total revolving consumer credit amounted to USD$1,094.2 billion(seasonally adjusted)/USD$1,094.2 billion(not seasonally adjusted) as at 31 December 2019, above the height of financial crisis in 2008(with USD$1,004.0 billion revolving consumer credit).

    As at 31 December 2020, there are 64 million subprime credit card accounts in the US, with $3,852 average credit line. In Q4 2020, a total of 16 million new subprime credit card accounts opened, with $2,541 average credit line.

    As at 30 September 2020, total outstanding student loan in the US stood at USD$1,566.3 billions compares to USD$1,544.8 billions a quarter ago, representing a 1.39% increased in 3 months period.
    As at 31 December 2019, total outstanding student loan in the US stood at USD$1,515.0 billions compares to USD$1,447.1 billions same period a year ago, representing a 4.69% increased in 12 months period.

    As at 30 June 2020, total outstanding home mortgage in the US stood at USD$12.976 trillion compares to USD$12.857 trillion a quarter ago, representing a 0.93% increased in 3 months period. The USD$12.976 trillion is made up of two type of properties, USD$11.304 trillion for 1 to 4 family residences and USD$1,671.8 billion for multifamily residences.
    As at 31 December 2019, total outstanding home mortgage in the US stood at USD$12.775 trillion compares to USD$12.352 trillion same period a year ago, representing a 3.42% increased in 12 months period. The USD$12.775 trillion is made up of two type of properties, USD$11.158 trillion for 1 to 4 family residences and USD$1,617.7 billion for multifamily residences.

    In 2019, 585,212 payday loans amounted to USD$229,993,042 were made at Washington by 168,711 customers. Whereas in Colorado, 414,284 payday loans amounted to USD$166,353,683 were made by 207,220 customers in 2016.



  • As at 30 June 2022, there are USD$79.237 billions outstanding credit card loans for Discover Card. USD$53.860 billions is generated for Discover card sales in Quarter 2, 2022(April, May and June), a 18.48% increase compares to the same quarter a year ago.

    As at 30 June 2022, there are 293 millions MasterCard credit and charge cards in the United States, generating USD$344 billions(USD$335 billions for purchases and USD$9 billions for cash advances) for Quarter 2, 2022(April, May and June). There are 751 million MasterCard credit and charge cards outside the U.S. as at 30 June 2022, generating USD$640 billions(USD$607 billions for purchases and USD$33 billions for cash advances) for Q2, 2022.

    As at 30 June 2022, there are 59.1 millions American Express cards in the United States, with total card billed business(including cash advances) of USD$276.7 billions for Quarter 2, 2022(April, May and June). There are 68.4 million American Express cards outside the U.S. as at 30 June 2022, generating USD$118.1 billions total card billed business for Q2, 2022.

    As at 31 March 2022, there are 368 millions Visa credit cards in the United States. USD$740 billions(USD$728 billions for purchases and USD$11 billions for cash advances) is generated for Quarter 2, 2022(April, May and June) in the United States. There are 845 million Visa credit cards outside the U.S. as at 31 March 2022. USD$803 billions(USD$762 for purchases and USD$42 for cash advances) is generated in Quarter 2, 2022 for the rest of the world.



  • As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in the US increase by 2.10% to 1,044.1 million. The estimated total credit cards spending for 2018 in the US up by 5.54% to USD$5,943 billions, with 6.11% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 September 2020, total outstanding commercial and industrial loans by FDIC-insured banks in the US stood at USD$2.539 trillion compares to USD$2.689 trillion as at 30 June 2020, representing a 5.58% decreased in 3 months period.

    Small business loans made up about 27% or USD$695.97 billion of the total outstanding USD$2.539 trillion commercial and industrial loans as at 30 September 2020, an increase of 36.28% compares to the same period a year ago.

    As at 31 December 2019, total outstanding small business loans stood USD$645.02 billion, an increase of 1.58% compares to USD$$634.97 billion in the same period a year ago.



  • As at 31 January 2021, Canada outstanding credit card balances stood at CAD$68.275 billion, a decrease of 6.12% or CAD$4,454 million compares to CAD$72.729 billion a month ago.

    As at 31 January 2021, Canada outstanding personal loan balances stood at CAD$112.290 billion, an increase of 1.52% or CAD$1,680 million compares to CAD$110.610 billion a month ago.

    As at 31 October 2018, the number of visa and mastercard in Canada increase by 2.02% to 75.8 millions compares to a year ago. The total visa and mastercard spending for 12 months ending 31 October 2018 in Canada up by 8.99% to CAD$547.98 billions(CAD$513.09 billion purchases and CAD$34.89 billions cash advances).

    As at 31 December 2019, the number of credit cards in Canada increase by 26.65% to 99,500,000. The total card spending for 12 months ended 31 December 2019 in Canada up by 6.02% to CAD$581 billions, with 3.38% increase in number of card transactions.




Asia and Oceania

  • As at 31 March 2022, the number of credit cards in Singapore stood at 5,429,178 for principal cardholders and 1,058,042 for supplementary cardholders.
    For the three months ended 31 March 2022, S$16,914.9 million recorded in Singapore for total card billings with S$53.3 million bad debts are written off in the period.

    As at 31 December 2021, the number of credit cards in Singapore stood at 5,436,052 for principal cardholders and 1,068,986 for supplementary cardholders.
    For the twelve months ended 31 December 2021, S$64,633.1 million recorded in Singapore for total card billings with S$234.6 million bad debts are written off in the period.

    As at 31 October 2022, consumer loans in Singapore is amounted to SGD$314,689.3 millions, a decrease of 0.69% compares to SGD$316,870.4 millions as at 30 September 2022. Total credit cards loans is amounted to SGD$12,316.4 millions as at 31 October 2022.

    As at 31 December 2020, there are 5,494,132 main cardholders in Singapore, a decrease of 1.09% in 12 months period. Whereas supplementary cardholders decrease by 7.12% to 1,137,805. For the twelve months ended 31 December 2020, total card billings amounted to SGD$57.87 billion.



  • As at 31 December 2022, there are 56,243,776 credit cards in Taiwan, however only 35,597,231 cards are active. A total of 1,472,630 cards is issued in the month of December 2022. The total credit cards spending for December 2022 in Taiwan is NT$335.46 billion, made up of NT$333.67 billion in purchases and NT$1.79 billion in cash advance.

    As at 31 December 2022, total outstanding consumer loans in Taiwan stood at NT$11.062053 trillions(credit card loans stood at NT$104.516 billions), an increase of NT$70.755 billions or 0.64% compares to NT$10.991298 trillions as at 31 November 2022.

    As at 31 December 2020, the number of credit cards in Taiwan increase by 5.75% to 50,116,397, compares to the same period a year ago. Total credit cards spending for 2020 in Taiwan is NT$3.020 trillions.



  • As at 31 March 2022, there are 17,058,000 credit card accounts in Hong Kong, a decrease of 65,000 or 0.38% in 3 months period(compares to 17,123,000 as at 31 December 2021). The rollover amount stood at HKD$21,116 millions as at 31 March 2022.

    As at 31 March 2022, there are 19,164,000 credit cards in Hong Kong, an increase of 0.60% compares to a quarter ago. 220,151,000 credit card transactions recorded in Q1 2022, generating HKD$172.038 billions.
    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2021, 921,110,000 credit card transactions recorded, with a total value of HKD$721.694 billions.

    As at 30 June 2022, outstanding professional and private loans in Hong Kong stood at HKD$2,688,636 millions, an increase of 0.50% compares to HKD$2,675,128 millions a quarter ago. Credit card advances stood at HKD$120,728 millions as at 30 June 2022, an increase of 8.51% compares to a quarter ago.



  • As at 31 October 2021, the number of credit cards in Thailand stood at 25,018,690, with 67.665 millions transactions amounting to THB163 billions recorded in October 2021.

    As at 31 December 2019, the number of credit cards in Thailand increase by 8.56% to 23,998,653. And the total credit cards spending for 2019 in Thailand continue to rise by 7.77% to THB2,233 billions.



  • As at 30 June 2021, there are 118 millions bank cards in Vietnam. For the 2nd quarter 2021, 106,854,078 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals, generating VND173,254 billions.

    For the 6 months ended 30 June 2021, 210,282,282 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals, generating VND352,720 billions in value.

    As at 31 December 2019, the number of bank cards in Vietnam decrease by 35.29% or 54 millions to 99 millions. 310,354,640 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals in 2019, generating VND604,650 billions.



  • As at 31 October 2021, there are 66.4 millions credit cards in India. The total credit cards spending for October 2021 in India is INR1,009.43 billions, out of 215.5 millions transactions.

    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2021, 524.5 millions of credit card transactions is recorded in India with a total value of INR1,971.61 billions.

    As at 31 December 2019, the number of credit cards in India increase by 25.15% to 55.33 million. The total credit cards spending for 2019 in India up by 25.02% to INR7,127.11 billions, with 24.16% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 November 2021, there are 16,608,890 credit cards in Indonesia. The total credit cards transactions for November 2021 in Indonesia is IDR23,476,699 millions, out of 26,389,765 transactions(25,968,946 recorded for purchases with IDR22,867,398 millions in value and 420,819 recorded for cash withdrawal with IDR609,301 millions in value).
    For the 6 months ended 30 June 2021, a total of 136,150,737 transactions is recorded in Indonesia with a total value of IDR116,399,434 millions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Indonesia increase by 0.18% to 17,275,128. The total credit cards transactions for 2018 in Indonesia up by 5.46% to IDR314,294,068 millions, with 3.35% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 28 February 2021, the number of credit cards in Malaysia stood at 8,807,595 for main cardholders and 896,024 for supplementary cardholders, with 38.9 million transactions amounting to MYR$9.6 billion recorded in the month.

    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2020, there are 489.2 millions of credit card payment transactions, with a total value of MYR$127.0 billions recorded.

    Loans for credit card in Malaysia stood at MYR103,385.320 millions as at 28 February 2021, an increase of 0.10% compares to previous month. MYR2,691.972 millions credit card loans disbursed in February 2021.

    As at 31 December 2019, the number of credit cards in Malaysia decrease by 2.06% to 10,111,986. And the total credit cards spending for 2019 in Malaysia continue to rise by 6.36% to MYR$143.8 billions, out of 510.1 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 March 2021, there are 18,061,536 cards in 13,432,262 accounts in Australia(made up of 16,677,145 credit cards and 1,384,391 charge cards), with 288,183,617 transactions amounting to A$29.07 billion recorded in the month.

    As at 30 April 2021, outstanding Lending to Persons in Australia stood at A$1,899.793 billions, an increase of 0.42% compares to A$1,891.778 billions as at 31 March 2021.

    As at 31 December 2019, outstanding Lending to Persons in Australia stood at A$1,827.724 billions, an increase of 3.27% in 12 months period.

    The number of charge and credit cardholders in Australia increase by 2.29% in 12 months period to 16,686,308 as at 31 December 2016. Total card transactions increase by 3.50% to A$312.55 billion.



  • As at 28 February 2022, there are 118,619,000 credit cards in South Korea, made up of 108,300,000 personal credit cards and 10,318,000 corporate credit cards. For the month of February 2022, 1,152,063,000 transactions recorded with a total value of KRW65.605580 trillions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in South Korea increase by 5.63% to 105,063,000. Personal credit cards increase by 5.68% while corporate credit card increase by 5.12%. A total of KRW741.32 trillions credit cards spending recorded in 2018, out of 13.21 billions transactions.



  • For the month of February 2022, JPY5.67 trillion credit card transactions recorded in Japan(JPY5.57 trillion for purchases and JPY0.10 trillion for cash advances).

    As at 31 March 2020, the number of credit cards in Japan increase by 3.18% to 283.94 millions, compares to the same period a year ago. The total credit card transactions for 2019 increased by 10.11% to JPY73.43 trillions, compares to 2018.



  • As at 30 June 2022, outstanding credit card balances in New Zealand stood at NZD$5.936 billion(an increase of NZD$6 million or 0.10% compares to NZD$5.930 billion as at end of May 2022). Total billings for New Zealand issued cards for June 2022 is NZD$4.144 billion(NZD$3.684 billion for domestic spending and NZD$460 million for overseas spending).

    As at 31 December 2014, the number of credit cards in New Zealand decrease by 2.56% to 2,608,147. A total of 334,048,524 credit card transactions recorded in 2014 with NZ$36,080 millions in value.



  • As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in China increase by 16.73% to 685.892 million. The total payment cards(credit and debit cards) spending for 2018 in China up by 35.09% to CNY92,759 billions, with 67.73% increase in number of card transactions.



Europe

  • As at 31 December 2020, there are 5,296,000 cards with credit function in Norway, a decrease of 1,084,000 or 15.52% compares to 6,344,000 in the end of 2019. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2020, a total of NOK159.7 billions recorded from 268.50 millions credit card transactions.



    As at 31 March 2022, the the outstanding balance for household loans in Norway stood at NOK3,906,838 million, an increase of NOK30,219 millions or 0.78% compares to NOK3,876,619 millions as at 31 December 2021.



  • As at 30 September 2022, there are 59.950 millions credit cards in the United Kingdom, with outstanding balances of £59.661 billions. The total credit cards spending for September 2022 in UK is £17.046 billions, out of 335.763 millions transactions. There are 688,000 balance transfer transactions amounted to £1,309 millions recorded in September 2022.

    Credit cards fraud in United Kingdom for 2019 decrease by 7.57% to £620.6m, 72.49% or £449.9m of card fraud is committed in UK, while £170.7m or 27.51% is committed abroad. The number of credit cards in UK increase by 7.88% to 64,851,000 as at 31st December 2019(compares to the same period a year ago), generating £204.48 billions in transactions.

    As at 31 December 2022, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in United Kingdom stood at £113,363 millions, a decrease by £905 millions or 0.79% compares to £114,268 millions as at 30 November 2022.



  • As at 30 June 2022, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Germany stood at €197,607 millions, an increase by €1,092 millions or 0.56% compares to €196,515 millions as at 31 May 2022.

    As at 31 December 2020, the number of credit cards in Germany increase by 1.88% to 5,838,800. The total cards spending for 2020 in Germany decreased by 15.73% to €7.5 billions, out of 139.6 millions transactions.



  • As at 30 June 2022, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Netherlands stood at €10,348 millions, an increase by €41 millions or 0.40% compares to €10,307 millions as at 31 May 2022.

    As at 30 September 2021, there are 6,307,776 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands. For the 9 months ended 30 September 2022, 147.440 millions transactions is recorded, generating €11.131 billions in total spending.
    As at 31 December 2020, there are 6,096,313 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2020, 187.035 millions transactions is recorded, generating €13.752 billions in total spending.

    As at 31 December 2020, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands decrease by 7.25% to 6,096,300. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2020 in Netherlands reduced by 19.02% to €14.9 billions, with 8.55% decrease in number of card transactions.
    As at 31 December 2020, there are 492,900 credit cards in Netherlands, an increase of 49.95% compares to the same period a year ago.



  • As at 31 December 2022, there are 16,939,115 convenience credit cards and extended credit cards in Sweden(69,779 or 0.41% lower compares to 17,008,894 as at end of November 2022), with the outstanding balance stood at SEK68.096 billions.

    As at 31 December 2020, the number of credit cards in Sweden decrease by 8.36% to 6,740,800. The total credit cards spending for 2020 in Sweden down by 12.70% to €21.3 billions(out of 511.2 millions transactions).

    As at 30 November 2022, the consumer credit(credit cards and personal loans) outstanding balance in Sweden stood at €25,996 millions, a decrease by €88 millions or 0.34% compares to €25,908 millions as at 31 October 2022.



  • As at 31 December 2021, there are 38.55 millions credit cards in Spain, an increase of 0.11 millions or 0.29% compares to 38.44 millions as at 30 September 2021. For the 3 months ended 31 March 2022, 1,611.091 millions payment card transactions(credit and debit cards) recorded at point of sales, with a total value of €50,214.80 millions.

    As at 31 December 2020, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Spain increase by 6.91% to 40,584,700. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2020 in Spain decrease by 6.32% to €75.6 billions, despite the 5.49% increase in number of card transactions.

    As at 30 June 2022, the outstanding balance for consumer credit, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Spain stood at €91,583 millions, an increase by €754 millions or 0.83% compares to €90,829 millions as at 31 May 2022.



  • As at 31 July 2022, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Belgium stood at €11,761 millions, a decrease by €18 millions or 0.15% compares to €11,779 millions as at 30 June 2022.

    As at 31 December 2020, there are 2,144,900 credit cards in Belgium. The total credit cards spending in Belgium for 2020 is €5.5 billion, out of 91.7 millions transactions.



  • As at 30 June 2022, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Finland stood at €17,090 millions, an increase by €83 millions or 0.49% compares to €17,007 millions as at 31 May 2022.

    As at 31 December 2020, there are 4,393,300 credit cards in Finland. The total credit cards spending in Finland for 2020 is €6.5 billions, out of 131.6 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 July 2022, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in France stood at €191,001 millions, an increase by €323 millions or 0.17% compares to €190,678 millions as at 30 June 2022.

    As at 31 December 2020, there are 8,566,300 credit cards in France, generating €30.3 billions from 674.9 millions credit card transactions.



  • As at 31 August 2022, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Italy stood at €113,872 millions, a decrease by €424 millions or 0.37% compares to €114,296 millions as at 31 July 2022.

    As at 31 December 2020, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Italy increase by 0.84% to 27,304,000. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2020 in Italy decrease by 14.32% to €75.4 billions, with 4.90% decrease in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 August 2022, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Denmark stood at €15,468 millions, a decrease by €712 millions or 4.40% compares to €16,180 millions as at 31 July 2022.

    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2020, 17.551 millions credit card transactions recorded in Denmark, generating DKK12.866 billions in total spending.

    As at 31 December 2019, the number of credit cards in Denmark decrease by 0.91% to 1,736,000. The total cards spending for 2019 in Denmark increase by 14.52% to €7.1 billions, with 14.55% increase recorded in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 April 2022, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Poland stood at €43,343 millions, a decrease by €418 millions or 0.96% compares to €43,761 millions as at 31 March 2022.

  • As at 31 December 2019, the number of credit cards in Poland decrease by 1.50% to 5,786,300. The total cards spending for 2019 in Poland rise by 10.68% to €11.4 billions, with 11.36% increase recorded in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 November 2021, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Austria stood at €17,055 millions, a decrease by €10 millions or 0.06% compares to €17,065 millions as at 31 October 2021.

    As at 31 December 2019, the number of credit cards in Austria decrease by 4.22% to 1,315,600. The total cards spending for 2019 in Austria increased by 4.92% to €6.4 billions, with 9.07% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 June 2022, there are 8,376,285 cardholders in Switzerland, with 57,995,000 transactions amounting to CHF$4.631 billion recorded in the month.

    As at 31 December 2019, the number of credit cards in Switzerland increase by 4.40% to 7,218,251. A total of 529.56 millions credit card transactions recorded in 2019 with CHF$46.65 billions in value.



  • As at 30 November 2021, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Hungary stood at €11,493 millions, a decrease by €111 millions or 0.96% compares to €11,604 millions as at 31 October 2021.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Hungary decrease by 8.34% to 1,283,600. The total cards spending for 2018 in Hungary rise by 13.27% to €2.6 billions, with 22.07% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 November 2021, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Czech Republic stood at €11,006 millions, an increase by €182 millions or 1.68% compares to €10,824 millions as at 31 October 2020.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Czech Republic decrease by 8.63% to 1,612,400. The total credit cards spending for 2018 in Czech Republic rise by 2.56% to €4.0 billions, with 9.11% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 November 2021, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Latvia stood at €519 millions, an increase by €4 millions or 0.78% compares to €515 millions as at 31 October 2020.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Latvia decrease by 16.95% to 301,800. The total credit cards spending for 2018 in Latvia down by 10% to €0.9 billions, with 1.40% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 September 2021, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Portugal stood at €19,232 millions, an increase by €78 millions or 0.41% compares to €19,154 millions as at 31 August 2020.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Portugal increase by 2.32% to 8,462,900. The total cards credit and/or delayed debit function spending for 2018 in Portugal increase by 8.57% to €3.8 billions, with 16.20% increase in number of card transactions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Bulgaria increase by 7.82% to 1,239,600. The total credit cards spending for 2018 in Bulgaria stagnant at €1.3 billions, with 3.78% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 October 2021, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Ireland stood at €11,583 millions, an increase by €68 millions or 0.59% compares to €11,515 millions as at 30 September 2021.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Ireland increase by 13.08% to 1,969,000. The total credit cards spending for 2018 in Ireland rise by 8.89% to €9.8 billions, with 12.35% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 October 2021, the loans granted to resident individuals outstanding balance in Russia stood at RUR23,902,370 millions, an increase by RUR370,331 millions or 1.57% compares to RUR23,532,039 millions as at 30 September 2021.

    As at 31 December 2020, the outstanding balance for loans granted to resident individuals in Russia stood at RUR19,925,666 millions, an increase of 13.44% compares to the same period a year ago.

    As at 31 March 2021, the number of credit cards in Russia has increased by 1.59% to 39,764,000 in 3 months period. For the 3 months ended 31 March 2021, 10,711.8 millions payment card(debit and credit card) transactions recorded in Russia, generating RUR9,516.2 billions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Russia increase by 9.10% to 35,082,000. The total credit cards spending for 2018 in Russia up by 29.41% to RUR2.42 trillions, with 30.78% increase in number of card transactions.
